Hi Aavya. The whistle blew on the field. Other children went ahead. Aavya's breath got fast and the knees felt heavy. A thought came, stop here, nobody will notice. Why did stopping feel easier? Because coming last brings shame, and shame shortens the steps. Aavya looked to the side. The teacher was waving, do not stop. Aavya put down one more step. Then one more. The line of the race did not break. Aavya crossed the tape last. The breath sounded like a bellows, and the mouth was smiling. The teacher said, you did not stop. Aavya, arriving first is one happiness. Arriving at all is another, and that one stays in your feet.
